01Stay safe first

Keep clear of downed lines and don't climb onto an icy or damaged roof. Look from the ground and from inside the attic with a flashlight.

02Photograph everything

Take dated photos of the roof, gutters, siding, windows, fences, and any interior water stains. Include something for scale, like a coin next to hail dents.

03Stop further damage

Cover openings with a tarp, move belongings away from leaks and catch dripping water. Keep receipts for anything you buy for temporary repairs.

04Book an inspection

A trained eye spots bruised shingles, cracked flashing and soft decking that are easy to miss. We document what we find with photos and a written estimate.

05Talk to your insurer
